(1) Subject to subsection (3) the words "building society" or the words "cumann foirgnÃochta" shall be included in the name of a society.
(2) A person, not being a building society and not being a public utility society in existence at the commencement of this section, shall not use in reference to itself or himself a name, title or descriptive expression containing the words "building society" or the words "cumann foirgnÃochta" or any translation, variant or derivative of those words.
(a) Save where paragraph (b) applies, a society shall not use any name or title other than its registered name.
(b) A society may carry on business under a name other than its registered name provided that -
(i) the details of the name proposed by it to be so used are furnished to and approved by the Central Bank, and
(ii) that name is duly registered under the Registration of Business Names Act 1963.
