Responsible for establishing Chechen forces in the Donbas region since March 2022 and for leading the siege on the city of Mariupol in March 2022. He has been personally involved in preparing the attacks since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. For these actions, on 26 April 2022, he was made a Hero of the Russian Federation by decree of the President of the Russian Federation.

In this capacity, he is responsible for, supporting or implementing actions or policies which undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, or stability or security in Ukraine.
