This Directive shall not concern:
1. subject to the application of Article 1(1)(c) of this Directive, the classes designated in the Annex to First Council Directive 73/239/EEC of 24 July 1973 on the coordination of laws, regulations and administrative provisions relating to the taking-up and pursuit of the business of direct insurance other than life assurance [OJ No L 228, 16. 8. 1973, p. 3.], hereinafter referred to as ''the first coordination Directive (non-life insurance)'';
2. operations of provident and mutual-benefit institutions whose benefits vary according to the resources available and which require each of their members to contribute at the appropriate flat rate;
3. operations carried out by organizations other than undertakings referred to in Article 1, whose object is to provide benefits for employed or self-employed persons belonging to an undertaking or group of undertakings, or a trade or group of trades, in the event of death or survival or of discontinuance or
