The consultation strategy supporting this proposal was composed of a number of initiatives:
- A targeted consultation on a digital euro was launched by the Commission on 5 April 2022 and closed on 16 June 2022. A dedicated section of this consultation included specific questions on the legal tender of cash. The targeted consultation gathered information from industry specialists, payment service providers (including credit institutions, payment and e-money institutions), payment infrastructure providers, developers of payment solutions, merchants, merchant associations, retail payments regulators, and supervisors, anti-money laundering (AML) supervisors, financial intelligence units, and other relevant authorities and experts as well as consumer organisations, in order to feed into the impact assessment prepared by the Commission in view of the proposal for a regulation on a digital euro and th
