(1) In these Regulations -
"assurance licence" has the meaning assigned to it by the Insurance Act, 1936 (No. 45 of 1936)
"the Annex" means the Annex to the Directive which is set out in Schedule I to these Regulations;
"authorisation" except where the context otherwise requires means - (i) authorisation granted under these Regulations, (ii) authorisation granted by the authority charged by law with the duty of supervising the activities of insurance undertakings in a State which is a member of the European Communities in accordance with Article 6 of the First Directive; and references to authorisation, in relation to non-life insurance in the Insurance Act, 1989, shall be construed accordingly;
"competent authority" in relation to a Member State, means the authority of that State that is empowered by a law of that State to supervise credit institutions or investment firms;
"Bank" means the Central Bank of Ireland;
