The Electoral Act 1992 is amended by the insertion of the following section after section 42:
"42A. Forfeiture of office order under Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Act 2018
(1) If while a person is a member of the Dáil a forfeiture of office order in respect of the person takes effect under section 17(6) of the Act of 2018, he or she shall thereupon cease to be such member and a vacancy shall exist accordingly in the membership of the Dáil.
(2) As soon as may be after the receipt by the Chairman of the Dáil of a notification from the registrar of a court under subsection (7) of section 17 of the Act of 2018 of the taking effect under subsection (6) of that section of a forfeiture of office order in respect of a member of the Dáil, the Chairman of the Dáil shall inform the Dáil of such receipt.
(3) In this section -
'Act of 2018' means the Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Act 2018;
'forfeiture of office order' means an order under section 17(4)(b) of the Act of 2018
