(1) For the purposes of controlling and investigating entitlement to any benefit, under this Act or under schemes administered by or on behalf of the Minister, the Minister may require the persons that may be prescribed to provide the Minister with the information in relation to those persons or classes of persons that may be prescribed.
(2) A person who fails to comply with a requirement made of him or her under subsection (1) or regulations made under that subsection is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €2,000.
