Regulation 211 Health insurance as an alternative to social security

(1) Despite anything to the contrary in the Insurance Acts, health insurance contracts in class 2 in Part 1 of Schedule 1 which serve as a partial or complete alternative to health insurance cover provided by the statutory social security system shall comply with the general good requirements of the State.

(2) For that purpose the "general good requirements" includes a requirement that such health insurance contracts provide for open enrolment, community rating and lifetime cover, in accordance with any enactment for the time being in force.
